LOVELY LADIES

It's a bit difficult to be a fashion blogger and be a. broke and b. overweight. The fashion industry has never seemed big enough for the big girl, and art & commerce can't seem to find an agreeable way to mix.  I don't think either of those things should stop me, however.  They are just bumps in the road, but I can flatten them out by working against them, or, better yet, with them.

It looks silly to dress in clothes that are too small, and unflattering for my awkward Michelin Man-like body type.  Step one in this quest to looking and feeling comfortable in my own clothes means it's time for a 'buy the right size' re-vamp.  What's worse than being a sardine in your ensemble?  Not a damn thing.  Aside from being totally awful, it's fucking uncomfortable; constantly readjusting & requiring a mirror to make sure all the lumps and bumps are smooth.

After quitting my job, falling behind on a few bills, and having to repay my parents for their help, I feel overwhelmed this holiday season without being scheduled enough hours at the new job.  I am not concerned, though, because it has humbled me a bit.  I don't need to go out to dinner more times than not each week.  I don't need to go out every weekend.  I don't need new clothes all the time.  In fact, I find myself buying useless things I never seem to wear when I hoard things.  It has been good for me to stretch my penny, shop at second-hand stores, get creative with what I've got, and make some of my own creations.  And if my Christmas list is fulfilled, I'll have plenty of unordinary basics that will go well with most anything.  So here's to being resourceful & remaining a lady at all costs!

STAM ON RUSSIAN VOGUE DECEMBER 2010

She is so beautiful.  Don't call her a tron.  Call her a fucking cat, or I'll slap you.  I'm dedicated to my lesbo crush for life (I have no choice - I tattooed the outline of her profile on my arm a few years ago).  She is a dream lady.  If ever I make a blonde Sim lady on Sims 3, she is always my inspiration.

IF ONLY I WAS PRIMIN' IN THE '70S

Shit, there isn't anything better than a good blast to the past.  I find myself obtaining the most inspiration from days prior.  As soon as I began creeping on old photos from Studio 54, I was reminded once again that I was meant for another time and place.  I can always change my place, though.  Beyond that, I can always wear what I want no matter what time period, so fuck that.  All I'm saying is that I usually find myself in clothing representing an age aside from my own (unless it's outrageously modern like Balenciaga, Alexandra McQueen and Maison Martin Margiela) being encouraged  most by Bianca Jagger and Cher. :)

ART FART

Real quick-like before work.  I'm feeling bright & peppy!  I love the stellar graphics on the Harvey Nichols dress.  I'm pretty sure he wasn't the first to put the starry sky on fabric.  Christopher Kane did, if not, he popularized it.  Love Chloe, of course, so the saddle bag is a given.  I love the orange leather, and I especially love that it matches the Balenciaga shoes.  Wow, they're gorgeous, and I was surprised to read they are designed by Nicolas Ghesquiere.  Doesn't look to futuristic.  I'll have to look more into them!

LIPSTICK FIEND

I love lipstick in so many ways.  It can be so expressive.  With an outrageous range of colors that come with a powerful opacity or a soft translucence, a brilliant pout is something I refuse to go without.  Everytime I go makeup shopping, whether intended or not, I always buy myself a new tube in some extravagant color.  While the traditional fire engine red is not my favorite, I still see it's classic time and place.  Not only that, but it looks lovely with every complexion.  The ones that melt my heart, and grab my eye are the brightest pinks and purples.  With favorites like Chanel 'Coco Pink' and Dior's 'Rose Making of Pink Premiere', I accompany my bright lips with a natural face - foundation, blush, mascara & done!

Not to mention that when I am feeling anxious, upset, nervous, or any negative emotion for that matter, I always feel best slapping the brightest of pink lipsticks on while listening to the most vulgar, ignorant and violent rap song I can find.  It really soothes me.  Try NARS 'Funny Face' & "Beat Them Hoes Down" by Three Six Mafia. ;)

And if you're on the search for an excellent tinted lip treatment that's a little bit lolita and a whole lot of Brigitte Bardot, I recommend NARS 'Sabrina'.  It's beautiful and light on your lips, and keeps them silky smooth.

I live by a man's code, designed to fit a man's world, yet at the same time I never forget that a woman's first job is to choose the right shade of lipstick.” -Carole Lombard

THE WAY OF THE CAT

What's my deal with animal prints? Especially those of cheetah, jaguar and leopard. I am truly a sucker for spots. I often wonder if it is because I love domesticated cats enough to wish I was one. Alas, I am not, and will never be in this lifetime. I suppose there are hope for others to come. This winter, I'll be seeing spots until my eyes pop out, I swear. I've purchased scarves, cardigans, sweaters and a long Calvin Klein fuzzy jacket to prove that this is the new neutral. I'm still yearning for more!!

Such a Streep fan.

SOMETHING'S GOT AHOLD OF ME RIGHT NOW, CHILD

I love rebellion.  I am taken by risk, and I know it's not the best, but it adds such an element of exhilaration and fun.  And when you add a little lady glamour to that rebellion, I feel a glorious look can be achieved.

Red represents defiance and regality to me - two wonderful things.  It's such a bold and almost obnoxious color.  I hate it for everything, but clothes and lipstick.  I could never imagine myself living in a red room or with a red door on the front of my house.  But, by all means, let me wear it!  It's so sassy and bold.

Of course, there is no better color to accompany gold than red.  It makes for such a stately color combination.  You'd be crazy to deny it since this duo has painted history so beautifully.  With its rich sheen, it adds a wonderful visual element.

SO GRAB YOUR AK & YOUR CROWN & PUT ON THOSE HEELS!
